Drowning is the number one cause of injury-related deaths among children between the ages of 1 and 5, and the second leading cause of death among children ages 1 – 14.
In the USA there is an average of 10 fatal drownings per day
More fatal drownings occur in rural areas and are more common among low income children
According to the CDC, drowning is the number one cause of unintentional death for children between the ages of 1 and 4.
Drowning can occur in as little as 20-60 seconds
Learning to swim can reduce the risk of drowning by 88%
